Dear Jamal,
I have been following your show recently and would like to congratulate you on it.
It is very smart, interesting and you steer it in a very professional objective way
seeking answers and the truth. You also try to talk about new hot topics in Egypt
and around the world and bring specialists to get the best opinion and most accurate ones.
I would like to propose an idea to you and hope that you would consider it. You recently
made an episode about facebook and social networks because it is becoming very popular.
I want to point you to the topic of computer and networking security. As you know we are
expanding the technological infrastructure in Egypt in the form of phones, internet service
providers (ISPs) and mobile operators and networks between the schools, governments organizations
and universities. Most of the time when these projects get implemented they don’t take securing
this infrastructure into account due to lack of knowledge of the importance of it, awareness and
financial issues. Security costs and it is an ongoing process that needs running cost and
maintenance and always comes as an afterthought. The west has recently realized how critical
the networking infrastructure is and spends a lot on R&D of security and to train experts …etc
We have completely missed this point. We even take products to secure our networks from companies
which are located and run by our eastern neighbors. They are very advanced in security and
software (e.g. checkpoint firewalls which integrate with cisco, ISS and a lot of products.
It does not make sense to be that dependent especially when expanding with projects in the
e-government which will affect our social and economical lives. The problem is that this
awareness takes years to buil and practices to change the mentality. Identity theft is a
serious problem in the US and once we start using digital IDs and have similar systems we
will face it and it will be too late. It is very important to start now and I hope you can
take the lead in this. I also point you to a revcent attack on the Estonian governemnt that
crippled them for several days. Attacks on the networking infrastructure can be very serious, damaging and
hard to combat if you don’t have qualified people, meachanisms and measures.
This message itself is a proof of this topic, you will only be able to see it 10 times, then
it will destruct itself. You will also not find out who I am because I faked the from email
address to make it seem to come from orbit.net.
I hope this makes a point.
Sincerely
A big fan of Jamal Enayet
